This lecture is about the role of technology in society. Questions that will be dealt with are: What drives technological change? Is technology defined by determinism, constructivism, or is it autonomous? How to prevent negative effects of technology? In addition to these considerations Jacque Ellul's views on modern and traditional technology are examined, as well as how technology and society are related.
