This lecture is a short introduction to the role of sustainable development in design. Engineers design products, processes and systems and doing so have a considerable effect on the sustainability of these products, processes and systems. The LiSD wheel (Lifecycle Design Strategies) is mentioned as a tool to compare the eco-efficiency of different design strategies.
