2.2.2 Case study: CEO Engineering consultancy firm

Course subject(s) Module 2. Strategies in Networks

For this case study:

First, the situation is characterized. This is followed by a brief video in which two actors act out a situation. Finally, you are asked the question: describe the smart command and control strategy that is being applied here?

An engineering consultancy firm has two divisions: Flood Risk Management (FRM) and Health and Safety (H&S). The CEO would like to merge both of these divisions. There is a lot of opposition to this within both FRM and H&S. This means that a process approach is likely to be very time-consuming and it is uncertain what the result will be. The CEO is also worried that a process approach will either fail to reach the desired result or lead to a messy compromise. If you involve FRM and H&S in a process of deciding whether or not to merge both divisions are opposed to the merger it is very likely to result in no merger.

What alternative strategy is there? Watch the video of the CEO from the engineering consultancy firm.
