Embedding science and technology in society has been my goal throughout my professional career. How? Professionalize science communication and education; stimulate education on sustainable innovation and introduce social issues in science education.
I teach science communication at Utrecht University (bachelors, masters and PhDs) and at Delft University of Technology (bachelors Life Sciences and Technology). Moreover, I teach academic writing to masters (Utrecht).
For teaching science communication according to the latest insights, I have initiated the development of a new book ‘Science communication, a knowledge base’, 2014 (in Dutch). The book has been written with 14 colleagues.
In Utrecht I co-coordinate a EU project, PARRISE, aiming at integrating socio-scientific issues and inquiry-base learning in primary and secondary STEM education. In Delft I manage the educational program for the BE-Basic Consortium.
