Petroleumscapes: Oil as an Actor of Urban, Socio-economic & Cultural Change
Course subject(s)
3 Socio-economic Change
In this video, you will look at how oil has become an actor of urban, socio-economic and cultural change, through the lens of the Randstad, the Netherlands. Carola Hein shows how the global corporations of the oil industry, with the support of public actors, have transformed the built environment and have influenced how we conceive of, use, and design it. Recognizing the so-called ‘physical and mental petroleumscapes’ and transforming them is perhaps the first step in creating fossil-free energy landscapes.
