Dennis den Ouden-van der Horst
Dennis den Ouden-van der Horst has been a lecturer in the Delft Institute for Applied Mathematics at the Delft University of Technology since the beginning of 2014. He gives lectures and facilitates practical exams for many mathematics courses taught at the Delft University of Technology. He also supervises BSc and MSc graduation projects in the field of Numerical Analysis.
Before becoming a lecturer at the Delft University of Technology he completed his PhD at the Delft University on the subject “Mathematical modelling of nucleation and growing precipitates in HSLA steels” in close collaboration with Tata Steel Ijmuiden B.V. and the Materials Innovation Institute. The PhD project focussed on accurately describing and simulating a part of the microstructure of steel, such that more advanced steels can in a later stage be designed more efficiently.
Dennis’ interest for numerical analysis originates from his early years at the Delft University of Technology as a BSc student, where he learned that the field of numerical analysis contains almost all types of mathematics, but also has a strong relation to solving real-life problems, ranging from industrial to medical problems.
