It is essential to understand how solar cells and modules are characterized to fully understand the practical value of the results. What are the typical standard test conditions? And how do these conditions relate to modules in real outdoors conditions?

In this section we focus on the most important characterisation techniques for the initial performance of lab scale solar cells. A basic understanding of these techniques is of great importance when the reliability of modules will be discussed in the PV3x course PV Systems.
