5.3.1 Being Self Critical

Course subject(s) Module 5 – Scale and Detail

You have probably noticed that we are always very positive about your work in the feedback videos. That is on purpose and it is because we value all your efforts in this course very much, and think that everyone has his or her own individual goals, challenges and starting points. So the course is no competition to reach a certain level or to compete with your fellow course participants. It is a great aspect of the course to have participants coming from all over the world and to be able to exchange thoughts and insights collectively.

However, it is of course important to be self-critical in architectural design. You plug in your own best efforts during the process, but in the end the result is based on the final outcome. This week we challenge you to take a little distance and look at the things you would like to improve. Below, we will show you a list of criteria that will be used in the peer review next week. That should not worry you, but it can stimulate you to fine tune some parts of your work.

We will also mention points that we think can be improved in some of the work we have seen on the Weebly sites. It is up to you to decide what you want to improve, so be selective. You have to manage your own time and set your own goals. Make those goals reasonable. We all would like to make the best model, but that is really not something you or we can do in the few moments we have to spare in our busy lives. This course can only help you to get to know some of the key factors of Models in Architecture. With that knowledge you can probably improve your next project.

Next week we will have the peer review. This will be a good opportunity to receive feedback from your colleagues. At the start of the week we will ask you to submit the URL of your Weebly site in the peer review assignment. Then you will give feedback based on the criteria below to four of your fellow MOOC participants’ projects that you will randomly receive as a next step in the assignment. Finally, you will obtain points based on the review of some of your peers who will score your work.
