Module 6 – The Full Picture
In this final module of Models in Architecture, we would like to elaborate on Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). We will do this in the Knowledge section, and show schemes that make clear how reality, mind and media relate to each other.
Before this we will show you video fragments that illustrate how it is possible to connect AR and VR to the main topic of Models in Architecture. The chosen films are quite long, so we suggest that you watch only the fragments that we have selected. Of course, if you are interested you can continue watching, but be aware that there is a lot more to experience and accomplish during this week.
About AR: please take a look at this video between 6m18s – 7m43s. This video gives an overview of projects from a group of tech-research-artists. They experiment with many sorts of models that are superimposed into ‘the real world’. Thus the models and objects take on meaning from the context they are inserted into.
About VR: please take a look at this video between 6m14s – 11m30s. This video is recorded from a Collaborative Virtual Environment (CVE) in which people from all over the world can meet and combine models into their own virtual meeting spaces. This software, called ‘High Fidelity‘, is a follow up from ‘Second Life‘. In this video, and in a number of other episodes, Jim and Jazmin show how they decorate their virtual apartment with all sorts of ‘assets’. The whole virtual world they inhabit consists of models like the ones you can find on SketchFab.
We invite you to discuss AR and VR in the Discussion thread below.
Specifically, we are curious to know what you think these two techniques can bring to the field of Architecture?
