Week 3
Designing an urban plan in the existing fabric and space asks for a careful study in its socio-cultural history. This forms the basis of every urban design. The strategy in this lecture gives the needed grip on the core elements and layers, by analysing the specific case of Rotterdam Zuid.
Reviewed are the historic layers still visible in the current city, the structure of dikes and basins, the zoning of the harbour city and the city plotted upon.
Els Bet is urban designer and tutor at the Chair of Theory & Methods.
