Recycling has an important function within a circular economy. Therefore it is crucial to design products with recycling in mind. In this module, we will explore Design for Recycling (DfR) of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) on a systems level. As e-waste is a growing concern, we explore the main drivers for change and what businesses, designers and engineers need to know to succeed.

Upon completing module 1, you will be able to explain the importance of (design for) recycling and the application of recycled materials in new products in a circular economy context.

• You can explain why businesses, designers and engineers must act when it comes to Design for Recycling and designing with recycled materials in EEE.
• You will be able to describe the key systemic barriers to closed loop plastics recycling.
