0.2.1 Outline of the course – module 1 of Biomedical Equipment: Repairing and Maintaining Biomedical Devices

Before you get started, we will introduce you to the general outline of the course.

The course is divided into 7 different modules. Module 1 discusses a few general principles that will come in handy when learning more about some devices, and modules 2-7 will each discuss medical devices from a different subcategory. In the following few pages we will further explain what will be discussed in each of these modules.

Module 1 – Physiology and Scientific Principles

Hospital equipment allows medical staff to help care for patients within the hospital. In order to do so, the equipment must be functioning properly. As a Biomedical Equipment Technician, this is your responsibility. As a part of your responsibility, it is incumbent upon you that you understand the human physiology that the equipment is designed to interrogate with or treat. Module 1 talks about Physiology and Scientific Principles. The basics of human physiology will be introduced to equip you with the knowledge needed to understand and work with certain devices. Basics of various scientific principles are also discussed in this module.
