Scientific Publishing

Peer Review is the gold standard of scientific publishing.

Peer Review is defined as:

“a process of subjecting an author’s scholarly work, research or ideas to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field.”

When publishing your work outside your institution or company, keep the following pointers in mind:

Conferences:

• Organized by a professional body or institute?
• Level of Peer-review ?– check rejection rate!
• Proceedings indexed for Scopus?

Journals:

• Where is it indexed?
• Is it peer-reviewed?
• What are its bibliometric measurements – citations, # of reads, impact factor?
• What is its history?

If in doubt consult colleagues or your institutional library.

Open Science: The dissemination of scientific knowledge, that is as wide as possible, free of charge to all users, and accessible online.

To publish open access you can either do so in an Open Access Journal or deposit a paper in your institution’s repository or on external research repository accounts such as ResearchGate.
