Lecture 5D: Semi-finished products

By now the importance of material selection for sustainable aviation has been made very clear. One way is by selecting lighter materials so less fuel is burned during operation. Additionally, weight savings by proper material selection generally result in a cascading effect, leading to increased overall weight savings in a process known as the snowball effect.

However, different, more advanced materials, generally require more production energy as shown with the example of Glare. Therefore, it is important to know the energy required to produce basic material building blocks, so called semi-finished products. This is the topic that Irene Fernandez-Villegas will talk about in this lecture.
