1.2.1 Power Electronics for Integration of Renewables

Course subject(s) 1. Integration of Renewables Into the Electricity Grid

In the last lecture, we learnt about the challenges when integrating renewables into the electric grid. Besides automation challenges, the operational challenges, and the planning challenges, there are also some challenges when physically connecting the renewables to the grid. This module we take a closer look and see how renewable energy sources are actually connected to the grid. In the lecture, different power electronic interfaces are introduced and the need for these power electronics is motivated. Also, the buck converter is explained as an example for the different power electronics.
