Module 3. Creating Movement: Making the Exoskeleton Walk
Exoskeletons are still fully in development, and this is no less true for the gait generation aspects of them. We have already told you in the video on gait generation that one of the greatest challenges is to have the gait of the exoskeleton respond to the environment, so it can be used in unknown environments as well. But there are more questions to be answered. We at Project MARCH give this a lot of thought. What does the ideal gait look like for someone walking in an exoskeleton? Can you adjust the gaits to make walking less heavy? How can you personalize a gait easily for a pilot? A lot of research is being done on this, both by us and by researchers all over the world.
In the coming weeks, you will come across those questions again. Using data from the exoskeleton (as will be discussed in week 4) and balancing the exoskeleton (week 5) are two main topics related to the future of gait generation. We hope you have enjoyed learning about creating movement in the exoskeleton, and are excited to go one step further!
