1.1.1 Grid Challenges for Renewable Integration

Course subject(s) 1. Integration of Renewables Into the Electricity Grid

“The trouble with energy farming is that the energy isn’t always where you want to use it, and it isn’t always when you want to use it”

-Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft

The greatest challenge for the coming years is to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy. However, it is more difficult than just installing solar panels and windmills. In the first lecture, you will be introduced to the integration of the renewables into the electricity grid. Because the original grid is not designed for the renewable energy, different problems have introduced themselves. This lecture will give an overview of the biggest challenges.
