1.2.1 Introductory Lecture (Part 1): Learning from the Past

Course subject(s) Module 1: Getting started: Global Housing Design

Now that we have introduced you to the structure of this course, as well as the team and the themes that will take you on a journey through the secrets of housing design, it’s time for the first lecture.

The first lecture will be given by Prof. Dick van Gameren, an expert in housing design who is also the current Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft. In this lecture, Dick explains why we need to develop critical accounts of experiences and developments from the past to find adequate solutions for the future. In the first part of Dick’s lecture, he will highlight why design is an essential aspect to tackle housing as a global challenge. He will support this hypothesis with his personal experience as a designer involved in the Thamesmead regeneration project in South East London.
