1.3.1 IT Governance, frameworks and standards
Course subject(s)
Module 1. Governance and Regulatory Framework
The implementation of innovative technology involves many risks. From the organization and users’ perspective, failures can result in a lack of confidence in the services and, consequently, a breach of trust. Therefore, IT Governance decisions, frameworks, and standards are essential to reduce possible drawbacks.
Prof. Aurora Sanchez, from Universidad Católica del Norte in Chile, will discuss the importance of IT governance on the organizations’ strategic goals for improving organizational performance. She also presents the definitions of IT governance, models and standards, and their applications in the government. Finally, for your reflection, Prof. Aurora introduces a case of IT governance with Vicente Lopez’s Open Data platform in Argentina.
IT Governance decision, frameworks, and standards
Main Takeaways
- Corporate governance aims to help build an environment of trust, transparency, and accountability necessary for fostering long-term investment, financial stability, and business integrity, thereby supporting stronger growth and more inclusive societies.
- IT governance should provide a structure linking IT processes, resources, organizational structure, and information to business and IT strategies and objectives, and it should significantly improve business processes and support business success.
- The process and mechanisms of IT governance in the public and private sector differs mainly in the impact of the external environment because the public sector has an open system that is more susceptible to this influence.
