1.3.2 Recyclable Packaging

Course subject(s) Module 1. Packaging in a Circular Economy

In the next episode we will examine recycling as a circular strategy for packaging. To introduce this topic we take a look at the in-house recycling of plastic packaging at Lush’s Green Hub. Giles Verdon, head of the Earthcare department, explains how this process works and why Lush has decided to recycle its own packaging waste.

MAIN TAKEAWAYS

  • Lush improved the recyclability of their packaging by using just one material.
  • Using recycled material requires adjustments in the production process, but it can be reused to make packaging again.
  • Getting consumers to cooperate and getting enough packaging returned for recycling are the main challenges in the recycling system.
