2.2.4 Reactor Design

Course subject(s) Module 2. Conversion Methods

Batch and Fixed Bed Reactors

The conversion is a key step in biorefinery but it is not the only one. We discussed catalysts and some pros and cons of the different types of catalysts. But what technology do you need? What kind of reactors are available to do the reaction? What type of technology is available to purify products? In the following video, Prof. Harry Bitter will mainly discuss the reactor types. The other issues, like pre-treatment and separation, will be dealt with more extensively in the Biorefinery Course of Wageningen University. Here, we will only touch upon this briefly in the assignments.

But first, learn about different reactor types and modes of operation!
