2.3.1 Governance of integrated energy systems

Course subject(s) 2. System thinking in the industrial sector

In this video, we will present the importance of governance in integrated energy systems. The sustainable development goals will be introduced, with an emphasis on how they relate to energy transition. We will relate energy transition and circular economy and, we will talk about the European Emissions Trading System, the first emissions trading system worldwide.

Key takeaways:

  • Achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) requires changes at all four system levels; process, product and value chain, organisational and systems changes
  • Technical innovation is directly connected with environmental impacts, economic results and SDGs.
  • The EU emissions trading system (ETS) works with a ‘cap and trade’ system, which results in a market price for the tonne of CO2
