City Politics for Sustainable Cities

In the previous video, we saw how cities engage in actions for sustainability. But, how does this fit into a state’s political scenario?

Traditionally, cities have been positioned at the lowest hierarchical level in terms of power and authority within a state’s political context. Nevertheless, nowadays many cities assert their capacity to solve many problems efficiently without depending on the national government. Plus, cities often require a quick, effective response to problems that require urgent solutions, such as climate change or food shortage. In the following video, professor Katrien Termeer will illustrate the huge potential of cities to act both effectively and democratically against climate change.
