In this final unit we will discover in which sectors of economy engineered enzyme are making a significant difference. We will find out how enzymes are making your everyday life better – either as products or in the production of (biobased) products.

We will get to know Ymphytase, an enzyme that improves animal nutrition and protects the environment from phosphate eutrophication, a process that could decreases drinking water quality and already pollutes the world´s oceans. The activity of this enzyme was improved, while pH stability and thermal resistance were increased to tailor the enzyme to industrial needs and the animal´s physiology – all in the same experiment!
