2.5.1 Energy policies
Course subject(s)
2. Electricity use in buildings
In the final video for week 2 we will be looking at the impact and potential that government policies can have in achieving carbon-free buildings.
Key takeaways:
- “Actors” – companies, institutes, or individuals – may not adopt measures to help achieve carbon-free buildings because they are facing barriers
- There are many different types of barriers that actors face such as knowledge barriers, economic barriers, organisational barriers, issues of split incentives and finally the concept of bounded rationality.
- Governments implement policies, with the objective of influencing the behaviour of actors to overcome these barriers and therefore contribute to reaching the government targets
- Government policies can employ communication, economic or normative mechanisms
