2.5.1 Energy policies

Course subject(s) 2. Electricity use in buildings

In the final video for week 2 we will be looking at the impact and potential that government policies can have in achieving carbon-free buildings.

Key takeaways:

  1. “Actors” – companies, institutes, or individuals – may not adopt measures to help achieve carbon-free buildings because they are facing barriers
  2. There are many different types of barriers that actors face such as knowledge barriers, economic barriers, organisational barriers, issues of split incentives and finally the concept of bounded rationality.
  3. Governments implement policies, with the objective of influencing the behaviour of actors to overcome these barriers and therefore contribute to reaching the government targets
  4. Government policies can employ communication, economic or normative mechanisms
