3.0.1 Welcome to module 3 of Designing Climate-Neutral industry and electricity generation

Course subject(s) 3. Climate-neutral electricity: the pivotal role of renewables

What is this week about?

Welcome to the third module of the course. How does the electricity grid work? In this module we look at the basics necessary to understand the challenges that come with weather-dependent and therefore variable renewable electricity generators.

Sections

The content of this week is split into five sections:

  1. How the electricity system works
  2. Quantifying renewable cost
  3. Quantifying renewable variability
  4. Quantifying renewable resources
  5. Other climate-neutral electricity technologies

Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes for this module are:

  • Explain the basic operation of the electricity grid and market
  • Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the major carbon-neutral electricity supply technologies
  • Quantify the resource, cost, and variability of different electricity supply options

Enjoy!
