3.3.7 Implementation of microwave drivers
We will now dive deeply into how to drive multiple qubits with the same coaxial line. This approach is called FDMA and uses different frequencies to propagate signals for different qubits. In this video you will learn how FDMA works, what challenges it poses, and you will see an experimental demonstration with the Horse Ridge chip.
- In FDMA (Frequency Division MUltiple Access) multiple qubits are driven with the same coaxial cable.
- An IQ modulator can be used to reduce by half the required DAC sampling frequency, at the price of doubling the system size.
- The main challenges of FDMA are wide bandwidth, low spurs, and pulse shaping.
- An implementation of this architecture in CMOS is the Horse Ridge chip, able to operate at 3K.
