Module 5: Production and End of Life

Welcome to (already) the fifth module of Sustainable Aviation. This module, we are stepping away from the functioning of the aircraft itself: we will focus on the production of aircraft and what will happen at the end of an aircraft’s life. To start off, Dr. Patricia Parlevliet, research leader on Future Technologies at Airbus will give an introduction to this modules topics.

The lifecycle of an aircraft begins with the design. After designing, the aircraft of course has to be manufactured. Once manufactured, we can move to the stage you are familiar with by now: using the aircraft, its operations. Lastly, once the aircraft has past its lifetime, we should consider what to do with it. All of these stages have their own environmental impact, associated challenges, and possible solutions.

We hope you’ll enjoy this module’s content!
