5.3.1 Petroleum plays in extensional systems

Course subject(s) 5. Hydrocarbon geology

Having gone through the last block of the module, the participants will be able to predict the occurrence of hydrocarbon plays in two challenging settings, those controlled by extension and contraction.

Having learned all about the petroleum system and its components, you will place this knowledge in a regional context and you will see how hydrocarbon plays in extensional and contractional settings follow some general rules which you might find useful in your future career (video clips 5.3.1 and 2). A reservoir type not mentioned here is that associated with flat lying rock bodies.
