In this lecture video, Dr. Stefano Lorenzi will discuss metal cooled reactors. The two designs are currently under study are the Lead- cooled Fast Reactor and the Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor. Historically, operation of these two designs have been proven. An Experimental Breeder Reactor -II in the USA, a 60MW SFR was operated from 1964 to 1994 while an Alfa class soviet submarine utilized a 155MWth reactor which was cooled by a lead-bismuth eutectic mixture.
