Course subject(s) Module 7 – Urban Food&Green: The Use of Urban Spaces

The Food System of Hanoi

In this first part of the module, we will look at how the citizens of Hanoi are co-creating their city’s food system. In the following video, Sigrid Wertheim-Heck will introduce Hanoi’s food system and the challenges it is confronted with. The food system involves a combination of modern supermarkets on the one hand and wet-markets and street vending on the other. The former are increasingly promoted by governments at the expense of the latter. What do you think about the shift in shopping routines that is promoted by the government as it relates to increasing food safety in Hanoi?
