Chapter 10 of the course book is the basis for this lecture.
As switch mode DC-DC converters often need a regulated output and isolation for safety possible solutions to this are treated in this lecture. As linear power supplies, a possible solution, have some drawbacks an alternative is treated: switch-mode power supplies.
Furthermore the workings of a transformer are explained with the help of the concepts reviewed in lecture 2.
In the second half of the lecture isolated DC-DC converters are treated. Numerous converter topologies are shown with characteristics and formulas to determine their behaviour.
