D02a – Aeration / Gas exchange

Course subject(s) D02a – Aeration / Gas exchange

In this lecture, prof. Van Dijk introduces a typical treatment process in groundwater systems: aeration or better gas exchange.
This lecture deals with the theoretical backgrounds of gas exchange controlled by the equilibrium between gas and water, and the dynamics of gas exchange given by the kinetics and the mass balance.
Thereafter the practical applications are presented such as aeration in cascades, spraying and tower aeration/stripping.
