Integration of Renewable Energy Systems

Course subject(s) 7 Synthesis

In the next video, Arjan van Timmeren shows that PV panels and Aquifer Thermal Storage systems can be integrated into the design of an urban area in order to make the urban energy system more sustainable.

As you have learned and seen in this MOOC, there are several resource cycles in the urban environment such as water, nutrients and carbon. These are all impacted by and have an impact on the liveability, governance, social practices, policy, infrastructure, and technologies.

Arjan discusses the energy cycle and how integration with the Shape & Structure of an urban area can result in Synthesis. Do you have real-life examples (or if not, can you think of a hypothetical example) of how this Synthesis can be increased even more by incorporating aspects of Shape & Structure and urban energy with other aspects of the urban environment (think of resources, policy, governance, behaviour, … )?
