From the Water History video series, a selection is shown in class. First, irrigation in the Himalayas, where a sterile expanse of rock has been transformed into an oasis, is contrasted to the wells of the Borana people of southern Ethiopia, who manually draw water for 300,000 people and a million head of cattle from deep, hidden wells. Then the Nile valley is shown, followed by irrigation employed by farmers in California. Finally, the water tribunal in Valencia, Spain, and a water auction in the deserts of Oman are shown. The Water History video series can be ordered from watervideo.com/video.htm.
