Robson, C., (2002) Real world research: A resource for social scientists and practioner-researchers (2nd ed). Malden: MA, Blackwell. (Chapter 11).

The first hour types of observations are presented, including possible combinations of types. Participant and non-participant observation, the process of analytic induction, recording observations and possible biases. observation rating scales and coding schemes including a relevant example.
The second hour is continued with an example of event coding. State sampling, interval sampling, and time sampling. Inter-observer agreement and Pearson correlation, Spearman correlation and Cohen’s kappa.
