S01 – Introduction: Why urban drainage? Types and flows

Course subject(s) S01 – Introduction: Why urban drainage? Types and flows

In this lecture, prof. Clemens introduces the lectures on Urban drainage / Sewerage.
This lecture deals with the general aspects of designing urban drainage infrastructure. He starts with the history of urban drainage, and he explans the function and goal of sewerage systems. Thereafter, he discusses the different types of sewer systems (combined, separated, improved separated, pressurized, vacuum), and describes the different components of sewer systems.
The latter part of his lecture deals with the design criteria for sewer systems (maximum flow, overflow frequency).
