Course subject(s) S04 – Hydraulic design principles

In this lecture, PhD researcher Ivo Pothof presents the hydraulics of flow in sewer channels and pipes, as well as the hydraulics of pumped pipeline systems.
First the hydraulic principles of staedy flow are explained, including hydraulic radius, wall shear stress, White-Colebrook friction factor, and partly filled pipes. Therafter the hydraulic principles of a pump-pipeline system is explained, including static head, dynamic head, pipe system characteristics and pump characteristics.
The latter part of the lectures includes exercises for calculations on flow in a rectangular channel, drawing a system line, and determining the duty point in a pump-pipe system.
