Urbanism Rotterdam and the Delta
More and more people are living in estuarine areas. Climatic and tectonic extremes seem to increase. This results in a rise in both the chance and severity of flooding calamities. Recent events in New Orleans and the Gangas delta give proof of undermining this. The Dutch delta can serve as an antidote for the modern battle against the water.
This presentation is about the historical development of the Dutch delta, its strategies and specific urban challenges. It also discusses the possibilities of land reclamation and future proposals for the estuarine area.
