W02b – Sedimentation: primary & secondary
In this lecture, ass. prof. De Koning discusses the sedimentation process focussing on process parameters of primary sedimentation.
The parameters inluencing the sedimentation tank performance on suspendes solids and BOD removal are presented, i.e. particle characteristics, water temperature, detention time, depth, horizontal flow velocity, scouring, wind effects, inlet construction, outlet construction, flow characteristics (turbulence, stability) and sludge removal. These parameters are further presented in a design example.
In the last part of the lecture secondary sedimentation is discussed in comparison with primary sedimentation.
