W04a – Process

Course subject(s) W04a – Process

In this lecture, ass. prof. Spanjers discusses the activated sludge process for wastewater treatment.
In the initial part of the lecture the process set-up is explained as well as the process parameters sludge load (F/M ratio) and Slugde Volume Index (SVI). These parameters are used for dimensioning and design.
The following section deals with the oxygen supply with different aeration methods. Thereafter the different forms of the activated sludge process are presented including carrousel and AB-process.
The last part of the lecture deal with secondary clarification with focus on bulking sludge and sludge storage.
