In this lecture, ass. prof. Spanjers discusses the removal of Nitrogen and Phosphor from wastewater in the activated sludge process.
In the introduction of the lecture he explains why the nutrients nitrogen and phosphor have to be removed from wastewater. Thereafter he discusses the biological processes for nitrogen removal i.e. nitrification and denitrification, and their practical application in alternating zones or systems, and in the Anammox process.
The latter part of the lecture deals with phosphor removal, either chemical or biological removal.
