Course subject(s) Module 0. Getting started with Ethical Dilemmas in Professional Engineering

A warm welcoming to this new journey. We invite you to explore and share knowledge on Dealing with Ethical Dilemmas in Professional Engineering worldwide.

Engineering has a direct and vital impact on the quality of life, the society and environment we live in. Due to their specialized knowledge and ability to change technological products and engineering projects engineers are expected to do their work responsibly. Therefore, as an engineer it is important to comply with the rules of professional conduct.

This course aims to give you an understanding the professional rules of conduct for engineers and how to apply them. We will do this by discussing the following topics:

    • Codes of conduct, and in particular the KIVI Code of Ethics as an expression of professional rules of conduct.
    • The conditions under which whistle blowing is warranted.
    • Conflicts of interest and ways of handling these.
    • The importance of communication with societal stakeholders.

Through informative videos and readings we will familiarize you with these topics, and invite you to apply your knowledge to your working practices. After each learning unit we want to invite you to share your experiences and to discuss challenges and opportunities for ethical conduct in your own working environment.
