Module 0. Getting Started
Welcome to the course Smart and Sustainable Cities: New ways of Digitalization and Governance!
Building smart, sustainable city initiatives requires governance capacity, constantly challenged by technological change and the transformation toward a digital society. This course provides the foundation for urban planners and policymakers to plan and develop smart, sustainable city initiatives while addressing local governance and sustainability challenges.
How can we deal with the challenges along the way, like effective stakeholders’ engagement, conflicting interests, decision-making under deep uncertainty, interdependent problems, spatial justice, and the transformation towards a digital society? Can those initiatives be sustained and governed?
To sum it up: building smart, sustainable city initiatives requires a strong governance capacity and new approaches, which will be presented in the following weeks, through our roadmap:
Smart and Sustainable City Governance Roadmap by Viale Pereira, G., and Schuch de Azambuja, L., 2022.
You can download a larger image of the roadmap from here.
We hope you will enjoy this course, share your best practices with your fellow students and contribute to the effective governance of Smart and Sustainable Cities initiatives!
Good luck!
