0.1.4 Meet the instructors of Designing Electronics for Recycling in a Circular Economy

Course subject(s) Module 0 Welcome to Designing Electronics for Recycling in a Circular Economy

Prof. Dr. Ruud Balkenende

Prof. dr. Ruud Balkenende is professor of Circular Product Design at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft. In 1990 he joined Philips Research, where he has been active at the interface of technological innovation and business applications. Since 2009 he has been mainly involved in research and development related to materials scarcity and product recyclability. Since 2013 his activities extended from recyclability to circular economy, i.e. reusing products or parts at a functional level instead of recovering materials.

Prof. Dr. Conny Bakker

Prof. dr. Conny Bakker is professor of Design Methodology for Sustainability and Circular Economy at the TU Delft, faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, where she coordinates and teaches several courses in Sustainable Design and Circular Product Design. Her research field is Design for the Circular Economy, in particular, the design and development of products that are used more than once (i.e. that have multiple lifecycles). A second research interest is the field of user centered sustainable design, which focuses on exploring the relationships between consumer behaviour, sustainability and design.
