Now that we have covered the practicalities, let’s start properly with what we are here for!

In this first module of the course we focus on the idea of a building envelope. We will discuss the basic principles behind its different functions, its construction elements and the design strategies required for successful performance. From Lucerne in Switzerland, we will travel to Amsterdam and finally Delft in the Netherlands: three different guest experts will talk about traditional and modern façades, placing particular emphasis on the relation between façades and energy, sustainability and circularity.

You will start working on your own project as we will ask you to apply what you learn and identify design principles in a façade near you.
