1.1.1 Welcome to Global Housing Design!

Course subject(s) Module 1: Getting started: Global Housing Design

A very warm welcome to Global Housing Design!

Thank you for joining us. We are thrilled to connect with you. This particular course is the result of a collaboration between the Faculty of Architecture at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC). Comprising of a team of Professors, Researchers and PhD candidates from TU Delft, we want to share, discuss and debate with you the incredible global challenges – and opportunities – of designing and building adequate housing for a more sustainable future.

This course will center around three key themes. Each of these will be explored through a built project that has been a recipient of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (AKAA).

Over the following modules, we will look into each of these themes through a combination of videos, documentation of key case studies, discussion of bibliographic references, and feedback sessions. By the end of this course, you will be both familiar with the complexities of designing “housing for the large number”, as well as intrigued and inspired to understand your own city and identify its own housing challenges. Together with you, we aim to expand the discussions on affordable housing design.

Thank you once again for your interest in this course!

With warm regards,

The Global Housing Design Team
