Welcome to module 1 of AI in Practice: Applying AI. In this module the AI for FinTech Research and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam kick off with a series of lessons on the topic of Reinforcement Learning for Real life. The lesson series consists of the following components:

  1. Context of Reinforcement Learning for Real Life, by Mark Hogendoorn, Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Computer Science of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and chair of the Quantitative Data Analytics group;
  2. Reinforcement Learning and personalization in e-Health, by Ali El Hassouni, PhD candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam;
  3. The promise of personalization: Why we need automated decision making, by Floris den Hengst, PhD candidate at ING and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam;
  4. Personalized dialogue management: Using reinforcement learning to improve your chatbot, by Floris den Hengst, PhD candidate at ING and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

And on top of that we present a small bonus track on Self-Learning Forecasting in Retail by the AI in Retail Lab – Amsterdam.
