2. The momentum balance
Two chapters done, only one to go this week! We have derived the Fanning equation and have learned how to use it for straight horizontal pipes. The pressure drop turned out to be dependent on a set of variables and the friction factor, that could be determined by 64/Re in the laminar regime and Blasius relation or the friction factor vs Reynolds graph for the turbulent regime. Finally we saw the effect of the roughness of a pipeline.
In the next chapter we are going to take a look at what happens if a pipeline is not straight and/or horizontal. What happens to the pressure drop and therefore our pump system if we operate at a less ideal situation?
