2.4.1 Wetlands: Form and Function

Course subject(s) 2. Necessary Background Knowledge

First, the form and function of the wetland ecosystems in which Building with Nature infrastructure development can occur are described. This information derives from the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, known as the Ramsar Convention (www.ramsar.org) – an intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for conservation and use of wetlands and their resources. Although the RAMSAR classification system comprises more than 30 wetland types, we present you with a selection of these types as an introduction to the topic. You are welcome to consult the resources of Wetlands International for further information.

Next, Prof. dr. Jill Slinger presents a video on distilling Ecological Design Principles – the E-principles.
